Person Specification Criteria - examples

I have really good people skills and am able to work effectively with a variety of people. I have worked in various shop jobs and pride myself on my ability to offer great customer service to every customer. I have also done some volunteering in a soup kitchen so I also have experience of working with homeless people and treating them with respect.

 

The following example is far more effective in demonstrating that the applicant has the skills and experience required.

Whilst I was a supervisor at Bar None (bar and restaurant) my job included event planning. In order to ensure everything ran smoothly I built positive relationships with key suppliers (food, decorations etc), worked closely with the general manager to ensure that we had enough staff and built excitement among the staff about the opportunity to be involved in the events.

 

I was responsible for organising all bookings and liaising both with customers, internal staff and external agencies to ensure that everything was organized and that the actual event ran smoothly. One particularly challenging event to organize was a Las Vegas themed birthday party in December. This involved a luxury meal, specialist decorations and entertainment, rather than a ‘set’ Christmas meal. We were fully booked and I did not want to disappoint other Christmas meal customers, but I knew one of the customers booked for that day had wanted another date but had changed because the set menu was not on offer that day. I approached my manager and he agreed I could offer the set menu on a Friday to free up the Thursday for the birthday party. Both sets of customers were happy with this and this also benefited the bar. I contacted a range of outside agencies and different stockists for props and specialist food and ensured that these could be delivered in time and the event ran smoothly.

2.7 Familiarity with IT applications and basic keyboard skills.

I am familiar with all the Microsoft office software and have good keyboard skills. I have used a variety of IT applications in my previous jobs. I am quick to learn new things so if I was required to use your own database I am sure I would pick it up quickly.

In my previous job at Admin Temps I carried out administrative duties which included using word to produce notices for the notice board, letters (including mail merge) and I also used excel to enter and filter data for the stationery order. I also used Outlook to send and receive emails and am proficient with setting up calendar events, meetings and sending links and attachments as I was required to do all of these things when I work on the Reception desk at Admin Temps. I have not used Access before, but in my previous job as a Recruitment Administrator I used their specialist database to record applicant’s details, after the applications were shortlisted I updated the candidates’ records to show if they were invited to interview or not and then used the database system to generate standard letters for candidates dependent on their status.

 

I also use a range of IT in my personal life including Skype to keep in touch with relatives in Australia.
