June 2008

Broadway has responded to the Department of Communities and Local Government’s informal consultation exercise on their draft strategy, 'Rough Sleeping 10 years on: from the streets to independent living and opportunity'. The strategy is due to be published in the summer, and the government is seeking feedback about the initial priorities they have identified to reduce rough sleeping to as close to zero as possible by 2012, and provide services to help former rough sleepers in the future.

To form our response to the discussion paper, we held a consultation meeting at the Broadway Day Centre in West London, attended by 16 clients, who took part in focussed discussion around the key issues raised in the strategy. Many of the participants are currently rough sleeping and others are at various stages in their journey to move away from the streets, including living in supported accommodation and in some cases now managing their own tenancies. The group was facilitated by a former client of Broadway with rough sleeping experience and two staff members.  In addition, we consulted widely with staff, including service delivery managers, in formulating this response.

Before I didn’t have goals. Now I have goals and Broadway help me reach them.
