Private Lives

The experiences of formerly homeless people resettled into the private rented sector by Real Lettings

The private rented sector is increasingly seen as a route out of homelessness and temporary accommodation for single homeless people (for example in the Government’s strategy to end rough sleeping No One Left Out).

Private Lives reports on Broadway’s research into Real Lettings, its own model of resettlement into the PRS.  The research included a survey completed by 73 of the 117 Real Lettings clients, 20 landlords and 27 referring agencies; interviews with the Real Lettings team; and in-depth interviews with 6 clients. It aims to:

  • Capture the voices and experiences of Real Lettings clients.
  • Determine what has helped individuals maintain tenancies and a good quality of life in the PRS, and how people who struggle to do so could be helped more.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Real Lettings as a model for enabling single homeless people to access the PRS and share learning from the project.
